Cleanup is done

On July 16, I participated in a walk through of both sites with a staff member of the Susanville Indian Rancheria (SIR) and with two other gatherers.

The SIR staff member was satisfied with the cleanup at both sites.  The person we met with was planning on providing a verbal report to the SIR Tribal Council on July 16th at 4 PM.   I asked the staff member if the SIR would write a letter stating their satisfaction with cleanup efforts. Stay tuned.

The United States Forest Services (USFS) resource personnel were directed by higher ups not to work with cleanup crews on site rehabilitation nor to give us direction nor feedback on our cleanup efforts.

When I left on Tuesday, July 16 at 4 PM, the final shitter was being closed along with the trail to the shitter. There were six or seven cars left on site with people planning to pull out later on Tuesday.

PS on Site 1 we did not log off the entrance to the old logging road. If anyone wants to go do that, it would be cool. Otherwise I believe the USFS will do it.

  1. It's been the usfs's intention all along to make us look bad...everything they did this year..from the fire ban...agitating the native Tribes to the forest closure and actions intended to complicate and stymie the clean up efforts were politically motivated and had nothing what so ever to do with looking out for the best interest of the forest

    1. I tend to agree that it certainly appears that way though in fairness it could be something as simple as a lack of communicatio. The people I talked to a couple times now all said basically the same thing , that there has been really bad internal communication in the forest service departments, I tend to think it's due to the inexperienced people they put in charge this year .

    2. it's was all just politics to appease the locals..and the district supervisor and the IC both shot themselves in the foot..they've ruined their own careers... Washington was appalled and pissed off

  2. It's good to hear that the Tribe's elder is satisfied with the work you did and feels that no more work is needed. The initial post indicated that the tribe was going to do the clean up and imagined that piles of trash and human feces were going to be present. Hopefully they will write a letter to that effect so that in the coming years the fears can be avoided.

No one from the Forest Service or any other agency or clandestine group (or whatever other story) agitated or provoked the tribes.
You brought that on yourselves with your past actions across northern California that we have not forgotten and with the debacle you called tribal outreach this year followed up by the way members of your group continue to talk about us.
Don't insult people and expect to be treated well...

    1. So this means that you are supporting Deforestation Patrols to begin in your Bioregion to physically defend Life there?!…. ‘ Been Gathering since 1995 after California EarthFirsters demanded we do nothing. Asking for Mother Earth, not for any human cause group… Ask Yourself This now!

  5. Such a missed opportunity. The forest service directed the gathering to a place desperately in need of rehabilitation. Many hands available and willing to be of service and the word from the forest service...crickets.

  6. When it comes to tribes and tribal leadership it would benefit all for you to be specific on who you exactly you consulted or spoke with. In Indian Country, transparency means everything. One wrong move, one incident of someone misrepresenting can have major impacts.
